    Ruellia brevifolia is an herbaceous perennial that can reach up to 1 metre in height. A native of tropical South America, it is grown in many countries as an ornamental. It is naturalized in Australia, Hawai'i and La Réunion, where it invades natural and semi-natural habitats.

    Geographical range
    Native range: Tropical South America.
    Known introduced range: Fiji, Hawai'i, Australia, a Réunion (PIER, 2007).
