Cestrum nocturnum is reported on Oahu Island as a light-requiring shrub growing from 2 - 4 m tall (Pattison et al., 1998) and listed as naturalised in mesic to wet forests (Wagner et al., 1990; in Pattison et al., 1998). In a historical account of exotic plantings of woody species in Hawaii, Woodcock (2003) includes C. nocturnum in a list of species considered the greatest threats to native Hawaiian biota. Ornamental plants such as C. nocturnum were supplied by Territorial Forestry to plantation owners, ranchers, farmers, and homeowners; in the case of C. nocturnum this was first done in 1926 (Woodcock, 2003). Starr et al. (2005) state that Cestrum nocturnum is commonly cultivated in Hawaii for its fragrant flowers that bloom at night. Impacts:
Compétition: Cestrum nocturnum appears to be more suited to capturing and using light than native Hawaiian species in greenhouse conditions (Pattison et al., 1998).
