Réduction de la biodiversité indigène: It has been estimated that more than a third of the endemic species of Orthalicidae in the Galapagos have become extinct during the last half century, in part due to the introduction of alien species (Coppois 1995, Parent & Smith 2006, in Borrero et al. 2009). From a conservation viewpoint, the presence of A. fulica in western Ecuador may be considered a major threat to "Darwin‘s Laboratory" (Borrero et al. 2009).
