Management Notes for this Location: The Hawke's Bay Regional Council aims to prevent the spread of privet and reduce the plant density of known infestations in urban areas by 25% by 2006. Privet is designated as a "total control plant pest" throughout the urban zone of Hawke’s Bay. Occupiers are responsible for the control of Privet on their land. They are also responsible for meeting the costs of control. Control may be carried out under a programme approved by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council. Where an occupier does not adhere to the approved management programme, an authorised person may issue directions for the control or eradication of Privet under section 122 of the Biosecurity Act. On default, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council may carry out work and recover the costs from the occupier under sections 128 and 129 of the Biosecurity Act. In the absence of an approved management programme, the occupier must manage privet in accordance with the Strategy Rule. Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will, at its discretion, assist land occupiers to control privet on rateable land. Please see the Hawkes Bay Regional Council: Pest management Strategy Part II for defintions of pest designation. Last Modified: 9/12/2005 3:18:47 p.m.
