Status: Alien Invasiveness: Invasive Occurrence: Established Source: Duvall II 2001 Arrival Date: Introduction: Species Notes for this Location: An investigation (Duvall 11, 2001) into the impacts of feral cats on native seabird populations on Maui found that "small colonies were vulnerable to total failure and larger colonies to losses of returning adults and late-stage chicks and adults". Management Notes for this Location:
Impacts: Threat to endangered species: An investigation (Duvall 11, 2001) found that native seabirds, such as the common wedge-tailed shearwater (see Puffinus pacificus in IUCN Red List of Threatened Species) and the more rare Bulwer's petrel (see Bulweria bulwerii in IUCN Red List of Threatened Species), which nest in coastal colonies at low elevations on Maui, were under threat of predation by feral cats. The study found that "small colonies were vulnerable to total failure and larger colonies to losses of returning adults and late-stage chicks and adults". Last Modified: 24/07/2006 3:28:43 p.m.
