    Phytophthora cinnamomi was first reported in Italy in chestnut coppices and Rhododendron sp. in nurseries. It is becoming reported more frequently, and has been associated with ink disease on chestnut, and to severe decline and death of Chamaecyparis in nurseries, as well as avocado, oak, walnut and highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum in nursery and field. In many cases, the introduction of can be traced back to the introduction of symptomless infected root scions of blueberry and chestnut plants from nurseries.
