In a list compiled by Jaksic (1998), Rangifer tarandus was recorded as being an invader. It was introduced to Navarino Island from the South Georgia Islands (as claimed by Argentina and the United Kingdom) in 1972, however its success was unknown. Irirate et al (2005) however has removed R. tarandus from the list as there is no data as to their successful establishment in the wild.
